Our Results, Your Success

The Global Fund has advised leaders of hundreds of CSOs on the most effective strategies and techniques of fund raising, management, and Board governance. As a result, they tend to diversify and significantly increase the income they receive from local sources, mainly individuals and corporations. Sound, broad-based fund raising takes time, since it involves improving programs, management, Board leadership, and relationships with donors...all of which take time. As a consultant in relatively poor countries, the Global Fund Raising Advisory's engagements tend to be short termand we are not able to see the long-term financial data that results from our interventions.

In the area of advising on grants from US-based sources, the numbers alone are impressive. In the last 5 years of operations, we have been the principal advisors in raising $31 million for 29 civil society organizations in 12 countries.

Given these results, it is understandable that CSOs often ask us to "get money from USAID, the IDB, the MIF, the World Bank, and people and companies and foundations in the US." We ask them to keep in mind the following:
  • We do not "get money" by ourselves. It takes team work. We work with good organizations that have good programs, helping them to diversify and increase their revenues over the long term. In that spirit, we don't boast about Our Success. When we market our services, we prefer to be realistic, saying Our Results, Your Success. We and our clients depend on, and learn from each other.

  • Part of our mission is to foster local philanthropy, which implies the need for thoughtful local fund raising. Therefore, we help an organization with international fund raising when it makes efforts to raise local monies.
